ABOUT
About this spot
Mount Daisen, Tottori Prefecture's world-renowned peak, rises 1,709 m and is the highest mountain in the Chugoku region. Revered since ancient times as a mountain where gods dwell, it is home on its slopes to the venerable Daisenji Temple and the Okunomiya of Ogamiyama Shrine, one of Japan's largest gongen-zukuri structures, all wrapped in an atmosphere of history and mystery. Its greatest appeal is that there is something to enjoy in every season. From spring to summer, hike through the fresh greenery of glowing beech forests; in autumn, vivid foliage said to be among the finest in western Japan paints the mountainside; and in winter, ski or snowboard across a silver-white world. Whether you want serious mountain climbing or a stroll along the approach path partway up the mountain to sample local food and sweets, there is a course for you. Families will also enjoy meeting the animals at Daisen Makiba Milk no Sato. We can confidently recommend this spot to anyone who wants to recharge amid grand natural surroundings.
