ABOUT
About this spot
Nageiredo at Mitokusan Sanbutsuji, located almost in the center of Tottori Prefecture, is a temple building unlike any other, built on a sheer cliff face. Enshrined in a place that seems beyond human ability, it is said to have been hurled into position by the ascetic En no Gyoja through his spiritual power, and it is designated a National Treasure. To worship at Nageiredo up close, you must climb a steep ascetic trail, gripping tree roots and rocky ledges. It is truly a "walking ascetic practice" of facing yourself. For this reason, worshippers are required to "enter the mountain in groups of two or more" and wear "non-slip footwear (hiking boots or waraji sandals)," and the reception even checks your attire, so it is the real thing. Along the way, spots such as Monjudo and Jizodo, which offer sweeping views, provide thrills and awe. Coming face to face with the majestic Nageiredo after your hard-won climb will be a memory for life. If you are confident in your fitness, make thorough preparations and come experience this mystical space. * For those who do not wish to climb, you can also view it through a telescope from the Nageiredo Yohaijo (distant viewing spot) along the road at the foot of the mountain.
