ABOUT
About this spot
Surrounded by the beautiful nature of Naruko Onsen, the "Japan Kokeshi Museum" is a cultural spot worth visiting even if you are not a kokeshi fan. Inside, thousands of traditional kokeshi dolls from across the Tohoku region, classified by style and including the collection of children's author Kaname Fukasawa, are on display, and you can enjoy the differences in their wonderfully individual expressions. The "kokeshi painting experience" is especially recommended. On genuine wooden blanks, you can paint your own face and patterns under the guidance of craftsmen, creating a one-of-a-kind travel memory. At the demonstration corner, you can also watch craftsmen's vivid turning techniques up close and experience traditional skills surrounded by the scent of wood. Located on a hill slightly away from the bustle of the hot spring town, it also offers excellent views of the surroundings. It is ideal for family trips, girls' trips, or solo trips to immerse yourself in culture. The retro, warm kokeshi dolls will give you a gentle welcome.
