ABOUT
About this spot
Essential to telling the history of Sendai is the Sendai Castle ruins (Aoba Castle). Built as a natural fortress by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai domain, the castle no longer has buildings, but the high-piled stone walls and the rebuilt side turret convey its former grandeur. The "Date Masamune Equestrian Statue" on the main enclosure site is a classic photo spot for Sendai sightseeing. From here you can see all of Sendai city, and on a clear day there is a panoramic view stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It is also a very popular night view spot, where the illuminated statue and city lights create a fantastical atmosphere. On the grounds, the "Aoba Castle Honmaru Kaikan" shows a CG video reconstruction of the castle of the time, and offers a good selection of Miyagi specialties and souvenirs. Whether you are a history fan, a solo traveler enjoying the scenery at leisure, or visiting with family and friends, it is a spot everyone can enjoy. Why not feel the breeze of Sendai, the City of Trees, and immerse yourself in the romance of history?
