ABOUT

About this spot

Located in northern Miyagi, the Naruko hot spring area is one of the Three Famous Hot Springs of Oshu, with over 1,000 years of history. Its greatest feature is its "richness of spring quality": 8 of the 11 types of hot spring water that exist in Japan can be enjoyed in this area alone. Walking through the hot spring town, the scent of sulfur drifting from somewhere and the workshops making handmade "Naruko kokeshi" dolls one by one stir your sense of adventure. Particularly recommended is the public bath "Taki no Yu," a symbol of Naruko Onsen. The cloudy water, long loved by the local people, offers a luxurious source-flowing experience at a bargain price. In autumn, "Naruko Gorge" is dyed with stunning colors, and the scenery of V-shaped steep cliffs and vivid foliage is simply spectacular. Whether you hop between foot baths with family or quietly savor the differences in spring water alone, spend the best weekend unwinding body and mind in a hot spring town that retains its retro Showa atmosphere.
