ABOUT
About this spot
Under the theme "Sparkling Life: The Connection Between the Sea and People," Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium is a spot where you can feel the charm of the Tohoku sea with your whole body. The aquarium's centerpiece, the giant tank "Sparkling Life Sea," is an open design with no roof, allowing sunlight to pour in. It recreates the rich sea of Sanriku, and the sight of 25,000 Japanese sardines schooling in time with the music is breathtakingly beautiful. At the "Umino-Mori Stadium," one of the largest in Japan, you can enjoy dynamic performances by dolphins and sea lions in an open space with no acrylic panels. The bird performances, in which birds fly very close to the seats, are also a must-see. With areas where you can observe penguins and seals up close and fantastical jellyfish exhibits, it is full of ideas that captivate adults and children alike. Thanks to its barrier-free design, visitors with strollers and wheelchairs can also enjoy it with peace of mind. With an outlet park nearby, it is an ideal destination for a holiday drive, a date, or a family trip.
