The Nikka Whisky Miyagikyo Distillery is surrounded by beautiful nature, a place its founder Masataka Taketsuru reached while "searching for base whiskies with different characters." In the vast grounds, red-brick buildings harmonize with the lush greenery, and a calm time flows along with the aroma of whisky. On the free guided tour (advance reservation required), you can see up close the whole process from saccharification to fermentation, distillation, and aging, and the sight of giant pot stills lined up is especially impressive. At the end of the tour you can enjoy whisky tasting, and the shop sells limited bottles and original snacks available only here. Whether you love alcohol or not, it is a recommended spot for a luxurious time enjoying the historic architecture and seasonal scenery. It is ideal for a drive with friends, a calm adult solo trip, and a family field trip.
