Yashima

A lava plateau about 290 m high overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. Known as the old battlefield of the Genpei War, it is one of Kagawa's top attractions, combining spectacular panoramas, the historic Yashima-ji Temple, an aquarium, and the artistic new exchange facility "Yashimaru."

ABOUT

About this spot

Yashima, located on the east side of Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, is a lava plateau distinguished by its flat, roof-like shape. It was the stage of the "Genpei War" fought between the Minamoto and Taira clans, and historic sites that evoke the breath of history are scattered about. From the viewpoint "Shishi no Reigan" on the summit, you can enjoy an overwhelming panoramic view of the islands floating in the calm Seto Inland Sea and the Takamatsu cityscape. In 2022, the exchange facility "Yashimaru," designed with wavy lines following the summit's terrain, opened. Walking through its glass corridors, you can enjoy art-like architecture and scenery at the same time. There are also plenty of spots that families and friends can enjoy all day, including "Yashima-ji," Temple No. 84 of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and the unusual "New Yashima Aquarium" on the summit. At dusk, a golden view chosen as one of the "Japan's 100 Best Sunsets" spreads out, and at night you can see the beautiful city lights selected as a "Japan Night View Heritage," making it very popular as a date course. With history, nature, and contemporary art coexisting, it is a classic spot not to be missed when visiting Kagawa.
