ABOUT

About this spot

Ritsurin Garden is a daimyo garden built in the early Edo period by the lord of the Takamatsu domain, boasting one of the largest areas in Japan. The landscaping beauty, which skillfully borrows the scenery of Mt. Shiun rising behind it, is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and highly praised by tourists from around the world. The garden has six ponds and thirteen artificial hills, letting you savor the "new scene with every step" beauty where the view changes as you walk. Riding a traditional "wasen" boat around Nanko Pond in particular lets you enjoy the elegant view from the water's surface, ideal for forgetting the bustle of the city and refreshing. At the tea house "Kikugetsu-tei," beloved by successive lords, you can enjoy matcha and sweets while gazing at the garden, a blissful time. There is always something to see in every season: cherry blossoms in spring, lotus in summer, autumn foliage, and plum blossoms in winter. The nighttime illumination in spring and autumn is especially fantastical and perfect for dates and family trips. Please visit this famous garden representing Kagawa, where history, nature, and traditional culture live on.
