ABOUT
About this spot
The Mikata Five Lakes, a scenic spot representing Fukui Prefecture, is a naturally rich area made up of five lakes: Lake Mikata, Lake Suigetsu, Lake Suga, Lake Kugushi, and Lake Hiruga. Its greatest feature is the beauty of the "Lakes of Five Colors," where the water appears in subtly different colors because each lake differs in salinity and depth. In 2005, it was also registered under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance. The top highlight is the panoramic view from "Rainbow Line Summit Park" at the summit of Mt. Baijodake. From the observation deck offering a 360-degree view, you can enjoy the contrast of the sparkling blue five lakes and the Sea of Japan all at once. The summit is equipped with a "Sky Foot Bath" and a "Counter Terrace," where you can spend a relaxed time while gazing at the scenery, making it ideal for dates and family trips. Cycling along the lakeshores, a lake cruise on a sightseeing boat, and the local specialty "natural eel" dishes around the area are also part of the fun. With seasonal flowers and bird watching too, it is also recommended for solo travelers who want to forget the city bustle and refresh.
