ABOUT

About this spot

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, is a dinosaur-specialized museum with one of the largest collections in the world. Inside its giant silver dome-shaped building, 44 complete dinosaur skeletons are on display, including the "Fukuisaurus" discovered locally in Fukui, and their power is simply overwhelming. The realistic moving dinosaurs based on the latest research and the grand dioramas where you can learn the history of the Earth will fully satisfy even the intellectual curiosity of adults. With the 2023 renovation, in addition to enhanced permanent exhibits, a new area was added where you can observe the forefront of fossil research up close. In the nearby "Katsuyama Dinosaur Forest," you can also try actual fossil excavation (reservation required), making it ideal for friends, couples, and families, as well as for those who want to immerse themselves in the romance of the ancient past alone. As an indoor facility, you can enjoy a full day regardless of the weather, making it the definitive Fukui sightseeing spot.
