ABOUT

About this spot

Megane Museum, a landmark of Sabae in Fukui Prefecture, is a spot where you can experience the history, culture and technology of eyeglasses in full. In the Megane Hakubutsukan inside, you can view valuable materials showing what the production area was like about 100 years ago and displays of rare eyeglasses, free of charge. A highlight is the handmade eyeglasses workshop (by reservation only), where you make your own frame under guidance. Creating a one-of-a-kind companion is an authentic experience that makes a perfect highlight of your trip. In the shop area, more than 3,000 frames from about 50 manufacturers in Fukui Prefecture are on display, and specialist staff also offer eye care and repairs. Inside, you will also find Sabae Sweets, with treats from Sabae confectioners, and MUSEUM CAFE, where you can enjoy Echizen-roasted coffee. As an all-weather indoor facility, it lets you relax with family and friends whatever the weather. Rediscover the charm of eyeglasses at this classic spot that no Sabae trip should miss.
