About this spot

Located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Akiyoshido is one of Japan's leading limestone caves and is designated a Special Natural Monument. Step inside and a huge space spreading 100 meters underground and a cool silence will greet you. The top highlight is the "Hyakumaizara" (Hundred Plates), which spreads like terraced rice fields. This sculpture, which nature has built over hundreds of millions of years, is overwhelmingly beautiful, almost divine work. The temperature inside the cave stays at about 17 degrees all year round, cool in summer and warm in winter, so you can enjoy sightseeing comfortably in any season. There are also many photogenic spots, such as the "Golden Pillar," a huge limestone column 15 meters tall. The walking paths are wide and well maintained for easy walking, so it is ideal for families with children, dates, and solo travelers who want to enjoy nature quietly. Combine it with the Akiyoshidai karst plateau above ground, and you are sure to have a wonderful experience of feeling the breath of the Earth with your whole body.
