ABOUT

About this spot

Yuda Onsen in Yamaguchi City is a historic hot spring town with a legend dating to the Muromachi period, when an injured white fox is said to have soaked its foot in a pond to heal its wound. With an abundant flow of about 2,000 tons of hot water per day, its soft, skin-friendly alkaline simple spring water is loved by people of all ages as a "beauty bath." The highlight of the hot spring town is its six foot baths, open to everyone. Soaking in the warmth of the onsen for free as you stroll the streets is a pleasure unique to Yuda. At the sightseeing hub Kitsune no Ashiato in particular, you can enjoy the luxury of soaking your feet while sipping local Yamaguchi sake. The town is also famous as a place where Bakumatsu-era patriots such as Sakamoto Ryoma and Takasugi Shinsaku gathered, and there are many spots of interest for history fans. In front of the station stands Yuta, an 8-meter-tall giant white fox statue, which is also a popular photo spot. Enjoy a quiet soak on a solo trip or café-hopping with friends. It is a charming hot spring town perfect for a weekend refresh.
