ABOUT
About this spot
Beppu Benten Pond in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a spring-fed pond that glows in a breathtakingly vivid cobalt blue. Selected as one of Japan's 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters, its water is so clear that you can see every single pebble on the bottom. The pond is surrounded by a quiet forest, creating a healing space filled with cool, refreshing air. According to legend, a wealthy landowner who once cleared this land suffered from a lack of water and enshrined the goddess Benzaiten, after which water began to gush forth. Even today many worshippers visit this powerful power spot. Beppu Itsukushima Shrine stands right next to the pond, lending a solemn atmosphere. You can also take the spring water home from a dedicated water-drawing area. At the adjacent trout farm you can taste rainbow trout dishes raised in this clear stream, making it a great stop for a family drive, photos with friends, or a break on a solo trip. Be sure to visit this scenic spot representing Yamaguchi, where you can recharge with the energy of nature using all five senses.
