ABOUT
About this spot
Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, which condenses Nagasaki's history and culture, is a highlight of exotic Nagasaki sightseeing. With roots in "Shinchi," created by land reclamation during the Edo-period isolation, today Chinese restaurants and souvenir shops crowd a crossroads of about 250 meters. The greatest appeal is, above all, the food, where you can enjoy authentic flavors. "Champon" and "sara udon," which originated in Nagasaki, have secret soups and ingredients at each shop, and comparing them is part of the fun. There is also a rich lineup of takeout items such as kakuni manju (braised pork buns), xiaolongbao, and hatoshi (fried shrimp paste sandwiched between bread), and strolling the lively streets while eating is an exceptional experience. During the "Nagasaki Lantern Festival" held in winter, the entire town is colored bright red by thousands of Chinese lanterns and transformed into a magical world. It is a lively spot that satisfies visitors of any generation, whether for lively meals on a family trip, grazing with friends, or a historic stroll alone.
