ABOUT
About this spot
A must-see on any Nagasaki trip is Dejima, the stage of overseas exchange in the Edo period. It was once a fan-shaped artificial island floating in the sea, but today buildings of that time have been faithfully restored, recreating the lively streetscape of the early 19th century. On the grounds stand the residence of the Kapitan (head of the trading post) and warehouses where trade goods were stored, and as soon as you step in, you feel as if you have time-traveled to the Edo period. In particular, the Japanese-Western blended interiors that recreate the lifestyle of the time are popular as photogenic spots with girls' trip groups and couples. At night, the area is lit up and enveloped in a magical atmosphere that is a complete change from the daytime. The museum is also well equipped, and you can deeply learn about the role it played in Japan's modernization, making it ideal for solo adult trips or educational family trips. Why not enjoy a relaxed stroll while feeling the breath of history?
