ABOUT
About this spot
Located near the hypocenter of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, Peace Park draws many visitors from around the world as a place to remember a tragic past and renew the vow for peace. The park is divided into several zones, and the best known is the Peace Statue in the Zone of Prayer. The huge bronze statue's right hand points to the sky to signify the threat of nuclear weapons, its left hand extends horizontally to symbolize world peace, and its gently closed eyes offer a prayer for the repose of the victims. The Fountain of Peace was created to pray for the souls of those who suffered from terrible thirst after the bombing, and its beautiful flowing water quietly speaks of the preciousness of peace. In spring the cherry trees bloom, and the park also serves as a place of relaxation for local residents. Whether with family or friends, or on your own, it is a special place where you can stroll quietly and feel the weight of history and the value of peace. Combining your visit with the nearby Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum will deepen your understanding even further.
