ABOUT
About this spot
Dogashima is one of Japan's leading scenic spots, located in West Izu, an area where the contrast between the unique strata created by volcanoes and the blue sea is beautiful. The top attraction is "Tenmado," a nationally designated Natural Monument. When you enter the cave by sightseeing boat, sunlight pours in through a round hole in the collapsed ceiling, and you encounter a magical sight of emerald-green seawater. Its beauty is even called the "Blue Grotto." The "tombolo phenomenon," in which a stone path appears between the shore and Sanshiro Island at low tide, is also famous. You can actually walk across to the island only for a limited time, letting you feel the mysteries of nature on your skin. There are also many scenic points around that were selected among "Japan's 100 Best Sunsets," and at dusk you can spend a luxurious time looking at the sea dyed golden. With hot spring facilities and restaurants serving fresh seafood, it is a classic sightseeing spot that can be enjoyed in any style, from a day trip to an overnight stay.
