ABOUT
About this spot
Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo is a leading zoo in Shikoku, whose appeal lies in its nature-rich setting that makes the most of its vast grounds. The zoo is divided into 10 zones by world region, such as "Africa Street" and "Asia Street," and is known for realistic exhibits recreating the animals' habitats. The biggest star is "Peace," the polar bear that was the first in Japan to be successfully raised by hand. Many fans come from inside and outside the prefecture just to catch a glimpse of its adorable figure. There are also plenty of events that let you feel the animals' individuality up close, such as dynamic lions and elephants and the penguin walk. With easy access from Dogo Onsen and central Matsuyama and ongoing barrier-free improvements, everyone from families with small children to seniors can spend a relaxed day. Why not spend a holiday soothed by lively animals in a quiet setting also known as the home of Tobe ware pottery?
