ABOUT
About this spot
Bansuiso was built in 1922 (Taisho 11) as a villa by Count Hisamatsu Sadakoto, a descendant of the former lord of the Matsuyama domain, and is the oldest reinforced-concrete Western-style building in Ehime Prefecture. Its French Renaissance exterior, which poured in the finest architectural technology and design of the time, still radiates elegant beauty after nearly 100 years. Stepping inside, fireplaces of a different design in each room, luxurious crystal chandeliers, and splendid stained glass adorning the landing of the grand staircase invite visitors into the glamorous high society of the Taisho era. The soft light streaming through the stained glass is especially dreamlike and very popular as a photo spot. Located at the foot of Matsuyama Castle with easy access from the city center, it is also ideal for dropping in between sightseeing stops. The garden also has the cafe "Soseki," where you can enjoy a luxurious moment in a quiet environment. It is a spot where visitors of all ages, from history and architecture fans to couples, solo travelers and families, can feel the elegance of Ehime and Matsuyama.
