ABOUT
About this spot
Shimonada Station in Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, is a stunning unstaffed station that even non-railway fans long to visit at least once. Step onto the platform and the Seto Inland Sea spreads without any obstruction, giving you the feeling of floating above the sea. It was once known as the "station closest to the sea in Japan," and has a history of being used as a model for movies, dramas and anime, and repeatedly in JR "Seishun 18 Kippu" posters. The clear blue sea during the day is wonderful, but dusk is especially spectacular. During the "magic hour," when the sky and sea turn orange, a serene beauty fills the air that leaves you speechless. It is perfect for a weekend drive with family or friends, and also for a solo trip listening quietly to the sound of waves and trains. There is a popular coffee stand close to the station building, where you can enjoy a luxurious time watching the sunset with a coffee in hand. Be sure to capture the contrast between the nostalgic wooden station building and the blue sea on camera.
