ABOUT
About this spot
Takaoka Castle was built in 1609 (Keicho 14) by Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga domain. It is now maintained as "Takaoka Kojo Park," and its biggest feature is that about one third of its total area is occupied by water moats. The splendid water moats, which strongly retain the look of that time, are a precious relic rare even nationwide. As a "Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots" location where about 1,800 cherry trees bloom in spring, and as a beautiful autumn foliage spot, it charms visitors with its expressions through the seasons. The park includes a museum where you can learn history, Imizu Shrine, and even a zoo that you can enjoy for free, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll alone or a picnic with family. Why not forget the bustle of the city and spend a calming moment feeling rich nature and the breath of history? Counted among Japan's Top 100 Castles, it is a famous spot worth visiting at least once, even for those who are not history fans.
