ABOUT
About this spot
Shomyo Falls, one of Toyama Prefecture's signature sights, is a magnificent waterfall with Japan's greatest drop of 350 m. The way it bends through four tiers and plunges all at once is simply breathtaking. In particular, during the spring snowmelt season or after rain, "Hannoki Falls" appears to the right of Shomyo Falls, and you can see the even rarer and more powerful sight of two huge falls plunging down in a V shape. A walking path of about 30 minutes one way is maintained from the parking lot to the falls, and you can enjoy a stroll listening to the pleasant sound of the river. If you make your way to the waterfall viewing platform (observation deck) right next to the falls, you can feel nature's energy directly, as the misty spray and the roar envelop your whole body. In autumn, the surrounding trees turn vivid colors, and the contrast with the white falls paints a breathtakingly beautiful picture. Whether for refreshing yourself alone or making memories with friends and family, it is a scenic spot you should not miss when visiting Toyama.
