ABOUT
About this spot
Mikurigaike Pond, spread across the Murodo plateau in the Northern Alps, is a scenic spot not to be missed on a visit to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. With a circumference of about 630 m and a depth of about 15 m, this pond has long been called the "Kitchen of the Gods," and a mystical legend remains that its pure water was used to cook food. Its charm is above all the "Upside-Down Tateyama" seen on windless days. The sight of the three peaks of Tateyama sharply reflected in the mirror-like surface is beautiful beyond words. It shows dramatic faces in each season: the contrast with remaining snow in early spring, delicate alpine flowers in summer, and vivid autumn foliage in fall. The walking path is paved with stone, and a pleasant point is that even those unaccustomed to mountain climbing can enjoy a stroll. It is ideal for taking photos with friends, a quiet trip alone to admire nature, or making family memories. Nearby is also "Mikurigaike Onsen," Japan's highest natural hot spring, and stopping by after enjoying the view to refresh body and mind is also recommended.
