ABOUT

About this spot

Kushida Shrine, which has watched over the city of Hakata in Fukuoka since ancient times, is the guardian shrine of Hakata, affectionately known to locals as "Okushida-san." Known as a power spot said to bring business prosperity and longevity, it draws many worshippers throughout the year. The top highlight is the spirited "Hakata Gion Yamakasa" festival held every July. Even outside the festival period, the powerful "Kazari Yamakasa" is permanently displayed in the grounds, where you can experience its intricate craftsmanship and overwhelming presence up close. The grounds also condense highlights such as the "Well of Eternal Youth," the "chikara-ishi" stones lifted by famous sumo wrestlers, and the "Hakata History Museum" that tells the history of Hakata. Its easy access, right by the subway Kushida-jinja-mae Station, is another attraction. Combined with street-food hopping at the adjoining Kawabata-dori Shopping Arcade or shopping at Canal City Hakata, it is recommended as a stroll to feel Hakata's history and culture. It is a key Hakata sightseeing spot that friends, families, and solo travelers can easily stop by.
