ABOUT
About this spot
Kawachi Fuji Gardens in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, has captivated visitors from around the world with its overwhelming beauty since opening in 1977, despite being privately owned. Its most famous feature is the wisteria tunnel, chosen by CNN as one of "Japan's 31 most beautiful places." Stretching about 110 meters, the arches of wisteria in layered gradations of purple, pink, and white create a dreamlike, enchanting scene. The garden is home to 22 varieties of wisteria in bloom, with curtains of blossoms cascading from the great wisteria trellis and dome-shaped wisteria, offering photo spots at every turn. Walking wrapped in the sweet, gentle fragrance is a special experience that soothes the fatigue of everyday life. Beyond the spring wisteria, the autumn foliage is also a hidden highlight. Around 700 maple trees turn vivid colors, letting you savor the deepening of autumn in tranquility. During peak wisteria season, entry is by advance reservation only, so planning ahead is recommended. It is a once-in-a-lifetime scenic spot, perfect for a memorable trip with friends, family, or someone special.
