ABOUT

About this spot

Mojiko Retro is a leading tourist area in Fukuoka Prefecture that preserves the historic streets of Moji Port, once counted among Japan's three great ports. Stately and elegant buildings gather around the port, such as JR Moji Port Station, which evokes Taisho romance, and the Old Moji Customs House, with its beautiful brick construction. For a weekend stroll, the local specialty "baked curry" is recommended. Lunch amid the aroma of toasty cheese and spices is exceptional. Crossing the "Blue Wing Moji," one of Japan's largest pedestrian-only drawbridges, as it closes with your partner is said to bring happiness, making it hugely popular as a date spot. At night the whole area is dreamily illuminated, and you can enjoy a beautiful night view together with the lights on the Shimonoseki side across the water. From solo trips appreciating the beauty of historic architecture to family memory-making, it is a charming spot where every generation can sink into nostalgia.
