ABOUT
About Tochigi
Tochigi Prefecture is a captivating destination where abundant nature and deep history exist in harmony. In terms of history, the UNESCO-listed "Shrines and Temples of Nikko" are essential. The sumptuous architectural beauty of Nikko Toshogu, which enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu, has fascinated many visitors from Japan and abroad. Turning to nature, you can enjoy the changing faces of the seasons at Nikko National Park, with Kegon Falls, one of Japan's three most famous waterfalls, and beautiful Lake Chuzenji, as well as at the Nasu Highlands, dotted with vast ranches and hot spring areas. In particular, the spectacular great wisteria at Ashikaga Flower Park has earned worldwide acclaim. There is plenty to enjoy in food too, including strawberries, for which the prefecture leads Japan in production, as well as local specialties such as "Utsunomiya gyoza," which draw long lines, and "Sano ramen," known for its distinctive wavy noodles. The prefecture also has many renowned hot springs, such as Kinugawa Onsen and Nasu Onsen, ideal for soothing travel-weary bodies. With excellent access from central Tokyo, it is a destination to be enjoyed to the fullest in many styles, from day trips to overnight stays.
