About this spot
Tamatsukuri Onsen in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is a historic hot spring area said since the Nara period to make one's appearance beautiful with one wash and cure all illnesses with two. Rich in sulfate ions, a skin-beautifying component, its water is like a natural lotion and has overwhelming support especially among women. Charming ryokan line the Tamayu River, and there are plenty of spots to enjoy while strolling, such as the riverside "foot baths" and the "tarai-yu" where you can take hot spring water home. Visiting power spots is another pleasure, such as Tamatsukuriyu Shrine with its "Negai-ishi" (wishing stone) that is said to grant your wish if you touch it and pray, and the "Koiki Well," said to make love come true. At dusk, bamboo lanterns light up the hot spring town, creating an atmospheric scene perfect for strolling in yukata. With easy access, about an hour by car from Izumo Taisha, it is a leading hot spring of the San'in region, ideal for girls' trips as well as healing trips for couples and families.
