ABOUT

About this spot

The Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture, is a one-of-a-kind museum where a vast Japanese garden of 50,000 tsubo and modern Japanese paintings merge, based on the belief of its founder, Adachi Zenko, that "a garden is also a painting." The main highlight is the garden, ranked number one in Japan for over 20 consecutive years by the U.S. specialist magazine "Journal of Japanese Gardening." Scenery of a different character unfolds in each area, including the dry landscape garden, white sand and green pine garden, moss garden, and pond garden, and the "Living Framed Picture" and "Living Hanging Scroll," which treat the museum's windows as frames, are overwhelmingly beautiful. The exhibits are also very lavish. The collection of Yokoyama Taikan, a master of the modern Japanese painting world, exceeds 120 works, ranking first in Japan in both quality and quantity. You can also enjoy a variety of works including ceramics, sculpture, and children's paintings, and spend a quiet time together with the garden views of the seasons. The museum also has tea rooms and a cafe where you can take a break while gazing at the garden, making it ideal for girls' trips, family trips, and solo trips to cultivate your sensibility at leisure. Because the garden changes dramatically with the seasons, it is a spot where you will find new wonder with every visit.
