ABOUT

About this spot

Lake Shinji, a scenic spot representing Shimane Prefecture, charms with the rich nature unique to a "brackish lake" where fresh water and seawater mix. The beauty at dusk is exceptional, and the golden contrast woven by the sky and lake surface, changing expression moment by moment, captures the hearts of all who visit. On the lakeshore is "Torupa," a sunset-viewing spot with a promenade and benches, ideal for a date with someone special, a quiet moment on a solo trip, or making family memories. For those who want to be more active, the sightseeing boat "Hakucho," which lets you enjoy the superb views from the water, is recommended. Not only the refreshing daytime cruise but also the "Sunset Cruise," departing in time with the sunset, is a luxurious experience offering a front-row seat on the lake with a close-up view of Yomegashima. Food is also not to be missed. Among the local "Seven Delicacies of Lake Shinji" (Shinjiko Shichichin), the large, richly flavored yamato clams, with the highest catch in Japan, make shijimi clam soup that is exceptionally delicious at the surrounding restaurants. It is a famous spot not to be missed on a Shimane trip, where you can enjoy the beauty of nature, local culture, and delicious flavors all at once.
