ABOUT

About this spot

Known nationwide as a sacred land of matchmaking, "Izumo Taisha" is a dignified shrine you should visit at least once in your life. Its principal deity, Okuninushi no Okami, has long been revered as the god of "enmusubi" (bonds), who deepens not only romantic ties but all kinds of connections between people. The vast grounds have a divine atmosphere centered on the National Treasure main hall. Especially overwhelming in scale is the giant "Oshimenawa" (sacred straw rope) at the Kaguraden, about 13.6 meters long and weighing about 5.2 tons. The "two bows, four claps, one bow" worship style unique to Izumo Taisha is also a notable feature. Along the nearby "Shinmon-dori" street, you can also enjoy local specialties such as Izumo soba and zenzai. It is an ideal spot both for time alone to reflect on yourself on a solo trip and for a leisurely stroll with friends or family feeling the history. Why not wish for wonderful connections in this mystical atmosphere?
