ABOUT
About this spot
Shimane Aquarium Aquas, straddling Hamada City and Gotsu City in Shimane Prefecture, is one of the largest aquariums in the Chugoku-Shikoku region, where you can meet about 10,000 sea creatures of around 400 species. The main attraction is the performance by the beluga whales, which became a topic of conversation in TV commercials. The "Happiness Bubble Ring," with rings of air blown from their mouths, and the "Happiness Magic Ring," blown from their noses, are fantastical sights that make viewers smile. Japan's first "Happiness Miracle Ring" is also not to be missed. In keeping with Shimane, the land of myths, the aquarium is also well stocked with an undersea tunnel passing through a large tank where sharks swim, a march of adorable penguins, and corners where you can enjoy the dynamic movements of seals and sea lions. Its superb location against the backdrop of the Sea of Japan is another appeal. A perfect spot not only for families but also for adults seeking a calm, healing atmosphere on a date or solo trip.
