ABOUT

About this spot

Takato Castle in Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, is a sturdy, renowned castle that Yamamoto Kansuke, military strategist to Takeda Shingen, is said to have helped build. Today it has been developed as Takato Castle Ruins Park, and in spring about 1,500 Takato Kohigan cherry trees, a variety found nowhere else in the world, burst into bloom, making it one of Japan's most celebrated cherry blossom destinations. Slightly smaller than Somei-Yoshino, these reddish, delicate blossoms cover the entire park like a pink cloud at full bloom. The castle also has high historical value as one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles, and remains such as the Sakura Gate and the Toiya Gate convey its former appearance. It is a lovely weekend stroll, and during the nighttime illumination it is extremely popular as a date spot. Don't miss the cherry trees reflected upside down on the water and the fantastical blossoms lit by light. Whether you want to soak in history on a solo trip or enjoy a picnic with your family, this is a once-in-a-lifetime scenic spot that symbolizes spring in Shinshu.
