ABOUT
About this spot
Jigokudani Monkey Park sits in the valley of the Yokoyu River, which has its source in Shiga Kogen, Nagano. It is a spot where you can see the extremely rare sight of wild Japanese macaques soaking in a hot spring. The main highlight is the "snow monkeys" relaxing in the bath to endure the harsh winter cold. Because the monkeys are properly protected and managed so that they do not fear humans, you can observe their natural expressions and parent-and-child grooming right before your eyes. From the parking lot or bus stop, you need to walk about 30 minutes along a path lined with beautiful cedar trees, which makes for a refreshing forest bath. Whether it is the snowy winter scenery, baby monkeys born in spring, or autumn foliage, you can experience the strength and charm of wild animals throughout the year. For families, couples, and solo travelers alike, it is a special place to forget everyday life and feel the wonder of nature. Please bring comfortable walking shoes and warm clothing.
