ABOUT

About this spot

Spreading across Azumino City, Nagano, Daio Wasabi Farm is one of Japan's largest wasabi farms, fed by spring water from the melting snow of the Northern Alps. Nourished by 120,000 tons of spring water a day, the vast wasabi fields stay lush and green all year, offering refreshing relief to visitors. The highlight of the farm is the three waterwheel huts lined up along the clear Yorozui River. It is also famous as a filming location for the film "Dreams" by the master director Akira Kurosawa, and conveys a nostalgic, original Japanese landscape to this day. From spring to autumn, riding a clear boat to see this scenery from the river is hugely popular. After strolling, don't miss the farm's food. The wasabi soft serve, with a refreshing kick that hits the nose and becomes addictive, and the wasabi croquettes fried to order are famous treats you should try. At the restaurant you can also enjoy a genuine wasabi rice bowl topped with wasabi you grate yourself. With well-kept walking paths, it is ideal for a family stroll, a drive with friends, or a solo refresh. Why not spend a relaxed, luxurious time surrounded by the pure water and air of Shinshu?
