About this spot
Takachiho Shrine in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, is a historic shrine said to have been founded about 1,900 years ago. As the head shrine of the 88 shrines of Takachiho-go, it has long been the center of faith in the region. Once inside the grounds, you will see the giant "Chichibu Sugi," a cedar about 800 years old, and the "Meoto Sugi," two cedars joined by a single root. It is said that if you hold hands and walk around the Meoto Sugi three times, wishes for a harmonious marriage and good matches will come true, making it a hugely popular power spot for couples and groups of women. The gorgeous carvings of the main hall, designated an Important Cultural Property, are another highlight. Every night at 8 p.m., Takachiho Kagura is also dedicated at the kagura hall in the grounds. This kagura lets you experience the world of mythology up close, and tourists can easily watch it, making it an unforgettable experience for a travel evening. Why not leave the bustle of the city and feel the eternal history and breath of myth in the quiet forest?
