ABOUT

About this spot

Fukiji Temple in Bungotakada City, Oita Prefecture, is a venerable temple founded in the Heian period. The top highlight is the Great Hall (Odo), a National Treasure. Counted among Japan's three great Amida halls alongside Byodoin Phoenix Hall in Uji and Chusonji Konjikido in Hiraizumi, it is the oldest surviving wooden building in Kyushu. Inside the hall sits a seated statue of Amida Nyorai, an Important Cultural Property, and the surrounding walls retain colorful murals depicting the world of the Pure Land. The simple yet solemn architectural beauty invites visitors into a tranquil time. Its seasonal faces are also appealing, and the autumn foliage season in particular is a must-see. When the large ginkgo trees in the grounds drop their leaves and cover the area around the hall like a golden carpet, it makes a stunning photo spot. It is recommended for history lovers, solo travelers wanting to soothe the fatigue of daily life, seniors who wish to feel Japanese beauty in a calm atmosphere, and family trips. Why not spend a peaceful moment feeling the breath of Rokugo Manzan culture?
