ABOUT
About this spot
Usa Jingu in Usa City, Oita Prefecture, is the head shrine of the more than 40,000 Hachiman shrines nationwide and holds extremely high status. In its vast grounds stand the National Treasure "main halls" in the Hachiman-zukuri style, and the scenery created by their vivid vermilion and the deep green of the surrounding forest is truly spectacular. Long known as a deity of victory, good fortune, and protection from misfortune, it now also draws attention as one of Kyushu's leading power spots. The wide, well-kept approach lets you stroll leisurely in rich nature, making it an ideal setting for family trips, sightseeing with friends, or quiet worship alone. The grounds are dotted with interesting sights, such as the "Meoto-ishi" (Married Couple Stones) and the "Negake Jizo," a Jizo said to grant one wish in a lifetime. Another notable feature is the manner of worship: instead of the usual "two bows, two claps, one bow," it is "two bows, four claps, one bow." It is a sacred place recommended for those who want to refresh body and mind away from daily life while feeling the breath of history.
