ABOUT
About this spot
Nanatsugama in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, consists of seven sea caves formed by erosion from the rough waves of the Genkai Sea. The rock faces of columnar joints, formed when volcanic basalt solidified into columns, are beautiful, and the scenery that tells of nature's power is designated a national natural monument. There are two main ways to enjoy it. One is to walk the grassy promenade on top of the cliff and look down from the observation deck. The panoramic view woven from the deep blue sea, white waves, and strange rocks is stunning, especially on a clear day. The other is to board the sightseeing boat "Ikamaru" departing from nearby Yobuko Port and view the caves from the sea. When the weather is good, the boat goes right up to the inside of the caves, letting you observe the powerful rock walls up close. The walking paths are well maintained, making it a great destination for families, drives with friends, or solo trips. Nearby is the "Yobuko Morning Market," and a plan of enjoying fresh squid dishes after the scenic view is also popular. Come experience this mysterious sight that lets you forget everyday life.
