ABOUT
About this spot
Ureshino Onsen in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, is a historic hot spring area ranked alongside Hinokami Onsen in Shimane Prefecture and Kitsuregawa Onsen in Tochigi Prefecture as one of "Japan's Three Great Beauty Baths." Its biggest feature is sodium bicarbonate water rich in sodium. The unique silky, beauty-serum-like feel of the water smooths keratinized skin and is said to leave skin feeling moist after bathing. The hot spring town is lined with atmospheric ryokan, and it is well supplied with strolling spots such as easy-to-enjoy foot baths and the retro public bath "Siebold no Yu." It also has a history of flourishing in the Edo period as a post town on the Nagasaki Kaido road, and its nostalgic Showa-era retro atmosphere is another charm. The food is not to be missed either. "Onsen yudofu," in which tofu simmered in hot spring water melts into a creamy texture, is an exquisite specialty of Ureshino. Spending relaxed time while enjoying the local specialty "Ureshino tea" is also recommended. Whether for a family hot spring trip, a girls' trip, or a solo trip, it offers a heartwarming, healing time.
