ABOUT
About this spot
The Akita Inu Kaikan in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, is a museum rare even by world standards, run by the Akita Inu Hozonkai (Akita Dog Preservation Society) for the preservation and promotion of the Akita dog, a National Natural Monument. In the museum room inside, many valuable materials are displayed on the Akita dog's roots, the story of the loyal dog Hachiko, and their biology and care, letting you learn deeply about the Akita dog. Tracing the history from the days when they were active as hunting dogs for matagi hunters to the present is very interesting. The greatest appeal of this facility is, above all, that you can "meet a real Akita dog." From late April to around mid-November, adorable Akita dogs take turns serving as "reception dogs" and welcome you near the entrance. Their big bodies, gentle and calm faces, and fluffy coats will win over adults and children in an instant. A statue of Hachiko nearby makes it an ideal photo spot too. Whether for making family trip memories, a pilgrimage for dog lovers, or a healing moment on a solo trip, it is a spot to enjoy in any situation. Feel the charm of the Akita dog together with the history of Odate.
