ABOUT
About this spot
Located in central Akita City, across from Senshu Park, the Akita Museum of Art was designed by Tadao Ando, one of Japan's leading architects. With a bold atrium themed on triangles and a spiral staircase without supports, the building itself radiates the beauty of a work of art. The top highlight is the huge mural "Events of Akita" by Tsuguharu Foujita (Leonard Foujita), the core of the Hirano Masakichi Collection. Measuring 3.65 m high and 20.5 m wide, this work depicts Akita's festivals and daily life on an overwhelming scale and is sure to move you with its power. The "Museum Cafe" on the second floor is also recommended. Across the water basin in front of you, you can view the green of Senshu Park and spend a calming time away from everyday life. It is an ideal spot for solo trips immersed in art, for dates enjoying the modern space, and as a photo spot for girls' trips. With good access within walking distance of Akita Station, you can enjoy a quiet time of sensibility along with the scenery of the four seasons.
