ABOUT
About this spot
Nyudozaki, at the northernmost tip of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture, where the 40th parallel north passes, is one of the prefecture's leading scenic spots, with a dynamic coastline and vast lawns. Its greatest symbol is the "Nyudozaki Lighthouse," with its rare black-and-white stripes. One of only 16 "climbable lighthouses" in Japan, it rewards those who climb the spiral staircase with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Sea of Japan. Around the area stand monuments symbolizing the 40th parallel north, and just strolling lets you refresh in the pleasant sea breeze. At dusk in particular, the sun sinking into the horizon dyes everything golden with a beauty that leaves you speechless. It is an ideal place for a drive with family and friends as well as for a solo trip to quietly gaze at the sea. At nearby restaurants you can also enjoy Oga's famous "ishiyaki ryori" (stone-grilled dishes), a spot where you will surely enjoy the charms of Oga with all five senses.
