ABOUT
About this spot
Located in Urabandai, Fukushima, the Goshikinuma Lakes are a group of more than 30 lakes and ponds formed by the 1888 eruption of Mt. Bandai. Because water quality, sediment, and vegetation differ from pond to pond, they display magically beautiful colors such as emerald green, turquoise blue, and cobalt blue. The roughly 4 km Goshikinuma Nature Trail, which takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to tour the main ponds, is popular as a beginner-friendly hiking course. On the largest pond, Bishamonnuma, you can even take a boat and enjoy a stunning panorama of the rugged crater wall of Mt. Bandai from the water. Searching for the "lucky white carp" with a red heart-shaped mark on its belly is another hidden delight. From fresh spring greenery and the refreshing blues of summer to fiery autumn foliage and winter snowshoeing, every visit brings new inspiration. It is a scenic spot we highly recommend for trips with friends and family, and for anyone who wants to quietly commune with nature, camera in hand.
