Oze National Park

Oze, one of Japan's largest mountain wetlands. The view of boardwalks stretching through marshland where skunk cabbage and day lilies bloom is truly a paradise left on earth.

ABOUT

About this spot

Oze National Park straddles the four prefectures of Gunma, Fukushima, Tochigi, and Niigata. Among its entrances, "Hatomachi Pass" on the Gunma side is the closest to Ozegahara at the center and is loved by many hikers from beginners to veterans. Boardwalks stretch endlessly across the vast marshland, and breathtaking scenery unfolds season by season: delicate skunk cabbage in spring, golden Nikko day lilies in summer, and in autumn "kusa-momiji" (grass turning red), when the whole marsh is dyed red. Because the main walking is on flat boardwalks, it is ideal for those not confident in their fitness and for those who want to stroll leisurely with a camera in hand. Time spent walking away from the city bustle while admiring the majestic forms of Mt. Shibutsu and Mt. Hiuchigatake is blissful and lets you forget everyday life. If you stay at a mountain hut, you may encounter a sky full of stars and fantastical scenery wrapped in morning mist. Please visit this natural sanctuary, one of Japan's best, where you can detox body and mind.
