ABOUT
About this spot
Aizu Buke Yashiki, one of Aizuwakamatsu's leading attractions, is a historical theme park centered on a reconstruction of the residence of Saigo Tanomo, chief retainer of the 230,000-koku Aizu domain. On its spacious grounds are the grand chief retainer's residence with 38 connected rooms, as well as historic buildings such as the Aizu domain's rice mill and magistrate's office, which have been relocated or reconstructed. Inside the residence, wax figures realistically recreate the daily life of samurai of the time, giving you the feeling of traveling back to Aizu in the final years of the shogunate. Another great point is the rich lineup of hands-on activities. Painting an akabeko (red cow toy) and trying archery are sure to liven things up with family and friends. At the on-site restaurant "Kyukyoku," you can also enjoy Aizu specialties such as wappa-meshi. It is a must-visit for history buffs, as well as for those who want to feel Japan's traditional beauty in a calm atmosphere and enjoy the full culture of Fukushima and Aizu.
