ABOUT
About this spot
Nihonmatsu Castle in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, is a historic castle counted among Japan's 100 Famous Castles. Now developed as Kasumigajo Park, it lets you enjoy beautiful scenery in every season. The top highlights are the imposing "Minowa Gate," rebuilt in the Heisei era, and the magnificent stone walls that convey its former appearance. From the main enclosure site at an elevation of about 345 m, you can see all of Nihonmatsu city, and on a clear day a panoramic view of the majestic Mt. Adatara spreads out. Known as a castle of flowers, in spring about 2,500 cherry trees bloom, making it one of the best hanami spots in the prefecture. In autumn the "Nihonmatsu Chrysanthemum Dolls," one of Japan's largest chrysanthemum festivals, are held, and splendid chrysanthemum flowers adorn the castle. With well-developed historical walking trails, it is also ideal for family picnics, trips with friends, or a leisurely solo holiday. Enjoy the rich nature of Fukushima while feeling the history of the castle town.
