ABOUT
About this spot
The Bandai-Azuma Skyline in Fukushima Prefecture is one of Japan's finest mountain sightseeing roads, reaching a maximum elevation of 1,622 m. Once a toll road, it is now open free of charge, and its greatest attraction is the dynamic change in scenery, from desolate volcanic gas zones reminiscent of foreign landscapes to forested areas of vivid green. The highlight is undoubtedly "Jododaira." Here you can get out of your car and walk the "Ohachi-meguri" trail around the crater rim of Azuma-Kofuji. Climb the stairs for about 10 minutes one way, and you will be overwhelmed by the view of Fukushima City below and the huge crater in front of you. It is especially recommended in spring for the "Snow Corridor," in summer for deep greenery, and in autumn when the whole mountain turns red and yellow. It is ideal for family drives, for facing the scenery quietly on your own, or for dates with someone special. After driving, a popular plan is to relax in the nearby Takayu Onsen or Tsuchiyu Onsen.
